Cobalt Blue was founded in Silicon Valley, California, in 1985, and relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1991.  Originally located in San Jose, just 50 miles south of San Francisco, Cobalt Blue's goal was to develop tools to serve the needs of programmers who were maintaining and converting FORTRAN legacy code.  By automating time-intensive programming tasks, our software removes the drudgery of maintaining, updating and porting code between various platforms, and has saved our users hundreds and often thousands of man hours! 

Our first test product was a RATFOR (Rational Fortran) to C translator, closely followed by FOR_C, a translator which converted standard FORTRAN-77 to ANSI C.  At the time, only one other company in the world offered such a translator, and its focus was on high-end UNIX computers.  We decided to focus on the rapidly growing PC market, later adding support for SUN workstations, VAXes and other UNIX platforms.

Because much of the FORTRAN code had been written over many years by engineers and scientists, with many differing styles and coding practices, our users were in need of a tool to help bring code consistency to their inherited legacy code.  So we developed a new tool, FOR_STRUCT, which allowed a FORTRAN programmer to take even poorly written FORTRAN-IV and restructure it to contemporary FORTRAN, which was easy (and much more cost-effective) to maintain.   Also a great code preparation tool to use before converting those  programs into the C environment!

All products have been developed using compiler technology for fast and accurate results.  Our suite of tools is fully compatible, very portable, and  available on a variety of popular platforms.   Over the years our users have subjected the software to rigorous testing and use, and we're proud of the reputation our tools have developed.
